This novel is a part of Brandon Sanderson’s overarching interconnected book series- The Cosmere. This novel is set on the planet of Lumar. The goal of Tress of the Emerald Sea was to capture the essence of a fairytale, as well instil humour throughout. This novel is written from a third-person perspective and the narrator is a man known as Hoid who also stars in the novel- but deprived from his usual acerbic personality. The book starts with the simple premise "what if evil won?" It takes place in the dystopian "final empire," ruled by the omnipotent "lord Ruler," an apparent sliver of God himself.  We meet the all powerful despot centuries into his immortal reign, in this time he has created different classes of people, with the evil noblemen said to be the descendants of those who helped him rise to power 1000 years previous.  Overview of A Time of Dread - By John Gwynne "A Time of Dread" is 2018 publication and is the first book in John Gwynne's series ",Of Blood and Bone." Taking place in the fabled the realm of the "Banished Lands," 120 years after the events of the final book of The Faithful and The Fallen quartet, or "The Day of Wrath" in canonical terminology. This book is best enjoyed having already read The Faithful and The Fallen series, with subtle and not-so subtle nods throughout the book paying homage to certain events and characters we first met in "Malice," through to "Wrath." Each chapter is from the point of view of a specific person within the story. M ain protagonist and POV character, Corban, is a blacksmith's son from the kingdom of Ardan, who has no great grandeur or nobility to his name, only to follow the fantasy archetype and rise from simple boy to hero.
